Precious and Magnificent Promises

"Seeing that His divine power has granted to us everything pertaining to life and godliness, through the true knowledge of Him who called us by His own glory and excellence. 4  For by these He has granted to us His precious and magnificent promises, so that by them you may become partakers of the divine nature,"  2 Peter 1:3-4

We started a study of 2 Peter in Sunday School this week, and jumped right into the promises of God. I have long loved this passage. Peter's words are poetry. This humble fisherman who often spoke before he thought about what he was saying, in this passage wrote with such inspiration! The words he used ring in my mind..."precious and magnificent promises". In class, we simply read some of the promises of God and discussed what they mean to us. Here is a sampling of the magnificent promises of God. Read and consider what each one means to you today.
Jeremiah 29:11
For I know the plans I have for you,” says the Lord. “They are plans for good and not for disaster, to give you a future and a hope.
Matthew 11:28-29
“Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls.
Isaiah 40:29-31
He gives power to the weak
and strength to the powerless.
Even youths will become weak and tired,
and young men will fall in exhaustion.
But those who trust in the Lord will find new strength.
They will soar high on wings like eagles.
They will run and not grow weary.
They will walk and not faint.
Philippians 4:19
And this same God who takes care of me will supply all your needs from his glorious riches, which have been given to us in Christ Jesus.
Romans 8:37-39
No, despite all these things, overwhelming victory is ours through Christ, who loved us.
And I am convinced that nothing can ever separate us from God’s love. Neither death nor life, neither angels nor demons, neither our fears for today nor our worries about tomorrow—not even the powers of hell can separate us from God’s love. No power in the sky above or in the earth below—indeed, nothing in all creation will ever be able to separate us from the love of God that is revealed in Christ Jesus our Lord.
Proverbs 1:33
But all who listen to me will live in peace,
untroubled by fear of harm.”
Isaiah 41:10
Fear not, for I am with you; be not dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you, yes, I will help you, I will uphold you with the right hand of my righteousness.
1John 1:7
But if we walk in the light as He is in the light, we have fellowship with one another, and the Blood of Jesus Christ His Son cleanses us from all sin.
Psalm 91:1,2,10,11,12
He that dwells in the secret place of the most High shall abide under the shadow of the
Almighty. I will say of the Lord, He is my refuge and my fortress: my God in Him will I trust.
There shall no evil befall you, neither shall any plague come near your dwelling. For He shall
give his angels charge over you, to keep you in all your ways. They shall bear you up in their
hands, lest you dash your foot against a stone.
John 10:28,29
And I give unto them eternal life; and they shall never perish, neither shall any man pluck them
out of My hand. My Father, which gave them to Me, is greater then all; and no man is able to
pluck them out of My Father’s hand.
2Timothy 1:7
God has not given us a spirit of fear, but of power and of love and a sound mind (full of truth)
Philippians 2:13
for it is God who works in you, both to will and to work for his good pleasure.
Phiippians 1:6
And I am sure of this, that he who began a good work in you will bring it to completion at the day of Jesus Christ.
1Thessolonians 5:23,24
And the very God of peace sanctify you wholly; and I pray God your whole spirit, soul and body be preserved blameless to the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ. Faithful is He that calls you, whoalso will do it.
1John 1:7,9
But if we walk in the light, as He is in the light, we have fellowship one with another, and the
blood of Jesus Christ His Son cleanses us from all sin: 9 If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.
Isaiah 43:1,2,3
Fear not: for 1 have redeemed you, I have called you by your name; you are mine. When you
pass through the waters, I will be with you; and through the rivers, they shall not overflow you:
when you walk through the fire, you shall not be burned; neither shall the flame kindle upon you.
For I am the Lord your God, the Holy One of Israel, your Saviour
